Gua Sha – a massage for the face

Gua Sha – een massage voor het gezicht

Have you ever heard of Gua Sha? Or do you want to know how to use a Gua Sha? It's a wonderful technique you can apply to both the body and the face. In this blog, we'll tell you more about the wonderful world of Gua Sha, including its origins, why it's good for your face, and how to use it.

Massage Stone

First, let's look at the origin of the Gua Sha Massage Stone. This technique originated from traditional Chinese medicine and has been used for centuries to improve energy flow in the body and release blockages. The idea is that by scraping and massaging the skin with a Gua Sha stone, you improve blood circulation and relax muscles, which can lead to an overall improvement in health.

How to use a Gua Sha?

So, why would you want to use Gua Sha on your face? Well, it has some great benefits!

  1. Firstly, it can help improve blood circulation in your face, giving you a healthy, radiant complexion.
  2. It can also help reduce tension in facial muscles and improve collagen production, which reduces fine lines and wrinkles. It makes the skin smoother and firmer.
  3. And let's talk about the 'morning look', with deeper wrinkles and sometimes some facial swelling. Gua Sha can help reduce that puffy look, so you look fresh and wide awake again.

But how do you actually use a Gua Sha stone? It's actually quite simple.

  • First, make sure your face is clean by cleansing with a non-drying cleanser, such as the Carrot Cleanser.
  • Apply a few drops of cleanser or serum to the face and neck to help the stone glide more easily over the face.
  • Then grab your Gua Sha stone - preferably one made from obsidian, a natural volcanic glass known for its healing properties. Make sure the stone is clean before use by washing it with mild soap and water.

Now you're ready to begin!

  • Hold the stone at about a 15-degree angle against your skin and use gentle but firm pressure to scrape (from bottom to top) in upward motions over your face.
  • Work from the center of your neck and face outwards, towards your ears. This is to direct fluid towards the lymph nodes, which can process the fluid (from inside out).
  • Start at your neck and work your way up to your forehead.
  • Focus on areas where you feel tension or where you want a little extra lift, such as along the jawline and around the eyes.
  • Do this for 5-10 minutes a day for the best results.

Gua Sha Results

What results can you expect? Don't expect miracles, but with daily use over a longer period, many people notice improved blood circulation in the skin, which stimulates its regenerative capacity. This can result in firmer skin.
