Ingredients in plain English Avocado Serum

  1. Avocado oil - softens the skin.
  2. Hemp seed oil - moisture-regulating (for external use only, contains no CBD or THC).
  3. Black elderberry seed oil - moisture-regulating.
  4. Oat oil - nourishes and softens the skin. Restores the moisture balance and calms dry, irritated skin.
  5. Broccoli seed oil - rich in antioxidants, softens and calms the skin.
  6. Borage seed oil - calming, soothing and restoring.
  7. Sugarcane (bisabolol) - has calming, restoring and soothing properties. Our Bisabolol is fermented with glucose from Brazilian sugarcane (Bonsucro-certified), a much more sustainable process than the natural variant from Candeia bark, which requires 10 years of growth and 1 ton of bark for just 7 kg of Bisabolol.
  8. Turmeric - antioxidant.
  9. Sunflower oil - softens the skin.
  10. Rosemary - antioxidant.
  11. Q10 - provides vitality, antioxidant.

Laboratory tests have shown no indications of allergies.

Ingredients from upcycling

Half of the ingredients of the Avocado Serum come from residual streams. We use:

  • Avocados that were rejected for the supermarket because they are too big, too small or 'ugly'.
  • Elderberries left over from juice production.
  • Sugarcane left over from sugar production.

How to use

Evening routine:

  1. Wet your face. Apply 2-3 pumps of Carrot Cleanser to your hand and massage in to cleanse your skin. Remove with a lukewarm damp washcloth using gentle, circular motions.
  2. Apply 1-2 pumps of Avocado Serum to your face, neck and around your eyes.
  3. Protect the skin with the Tomato Base Cream. Take a pea-sized amount of cream and spread over your face and neck.

Extra: twice a week in the evening, apply the Avocado Serum generously to cleansed skin, without the Tomato Base Cream. This way the Avocado Serum works as an overnight mask to give the skin extra nourishment.

Morning routine:

Repeat the steps above. You can choose to skip step 1 in the morning if the skin was cleansed well the evening before.

The Serums keep for up to 30 months after production. After opening, they keep for 6 months.

Customers use a 30ml serum for an average of 2-3 months, and a 60ml serum for 4-6 months.

Scent

A natural scent has been added to the Tomato Base Cream and Carrot Cleanser for an invigorating effect, but in the serums we deliberately chose not to add a natural scent, so they can also be applied around the eyes and remain super mild products. The serums smell like the ingredients smell, which is often described as 'earthy'. Mix it with a little Tomato Base Cream if you do want a scent experience, or the scent will fade within a few minutes.

The essential oils cardamom, myrrh and lemongrass have been added to our Tomato Base Cream and Carrot Cleanser. Besides scent, these oils have other beneficial effects, for both your mind and your skin.

Lemongrass

Lemongrass is a real pick-me-up thanks to its spicy lemon aroma. It dispels listlessness and despondency and gives strength when you feel weak. It has a strengthening, cooling and decongesting effect on your skin.

Myrrh

Myrrh oil restores the skin and has a soothing effect. In warm weather, myrrh has a slightly cooling effect on the skin. It also has a calming and relaxing effect.

Cardamom

Cardamom has an antibacterial effect. It gives refreshing energy, calms overwrought nerves and helps you process tension better. It strengthens your mental concentration and clears blockages.

Wow wat onwijs leuk om te horen, en bedankt voor deze review! Het klopt inderdaad dat je door de hoge concentratie werkende stoffen maar heel weinig nodig hebt om de huid te voeden. Dit zorgt er ook voor dat je langer met je serum kan doen, en er dus extra lang van kan genieten.

Het serum is echt heel fijn. Ik heb een hele vochtarme huid. Als ik het serum heb gebruikt dan voelen mijn gezicht, hals en decolleté heerlijk zacht aan. Het is net alsof ik bij de schoonheidsspecialiste vandaan kom.

Perfect voor droge huid! Omdat er ook wat op m’n handen komt bij gebruik, zou ik ook als handverzorging willen gebruiken. Wanneer komt er een handcrème ?

Fijn dat je zo geniet van de producten, Tineke! Er is inderdaad momenteel nog geen handcréme in ons assortiment, maar we zijn altijd bezig met de ontwikkeling van nieuwe producten! In de tussentijd kan je ook een klein beetje van de Tomato Base Cream gebruiken als handcréme - dat doe ik zelf weleens.

Heerlijk product!

Ik ben al aan mijn tweede potje bezig. Ik heb een heel droge en gevoelige huid en dit is heerlijk voedend. Het enige petieterige minpuntje (pun intended) dat ik heb is dat het etiket moeilijk leesbaar is en ik dus niet goed kan zien of ik nu de cleanser (ook al zo fantastisch) of het serum in handen heb. Ik heb het opgelost met een stickertje 😀

Dankjewel voor jouw review en zo ontzettend fijn om te horen dat de producten van Food for Skin jouw huid zo'n voedend gevoel geven. Omdat onze producten zo compact zijn met ingrediënten, hoeven de flesjes ook niet zo groot te zijn - dus ook kleinere labels. De leeftijdsindictie deed mij eerst twijfelen, omdat ik in de 30 ben, maar voor mijn droge en gevoelige huid is deze serum echt fantastisch!

Ons Avocadoserum is zeker in periodes waarin de huid meer krijgt te verduren een hele fijn om je verzorging (tijdelijk) mee te boosten. Zowel hoogzomer als midwinter, er is ook een proefset met de 3 serums in 10 ml flesjes, als je het prettig vindt om af te wisselen

Is this a good serum for dry skin?

Yes. The Avocado Serum is formulated for dry, moisture-deprived skin. It contains no water or fillers: every drop consists of active ingredients that nourish the skin.
Is the Avocado Serum a hydrating serum?

The serum helps the skin retain moisture for longer, rather than hydrating the skin from within. The nourishing oils support the skin barrier so the skin better retains the moisture that is present. If you are looking for a hydrating serum for the face, that is exactly what this serum contributes to.
Can I use the Avocado Serum as a nourishing night mask?

Yes, Food for Skin even recommends this. Apply the serum generously twice a week in the evening on cleansed skin, without the Tomato Base Cream on top. Gently massage in any residue the next morning.
Does the hemp seed oil in the Avocado Serum contain CBD or THC?

No. It is cold-pressed oil from hemp seeds, without CBD, THC or other cannabinoids. Hemp seed oil is a plant-based oil that regulates moisture and is rich in essential fatty acids. The serum is intended for external use only.

Serum for dry skin

Dry skin feels tight, rough or flaky. This is rarely because you apply too little product. The cause usually lies in the skin barrier: the top layer of skin does not retain the moisture that is present well enough, so it evaporates. This is called transepidermal water loss, abbreviated TEWL. The Avocado Serum is composed precisely for this. The high concentration of skin-supporting lipids replenishes the skin with the fatty acids the barrier needs, so moisture stays in where it belongs. That is why the skin feels less tight and more comfortable after a few weeks of use, even extremely dry skin.

Hydrating serum for the face?

Many people look for a hydrating serum for the face. This is exactly what we want to be honest about. Hydration comes from within, by drinking. No serum puts water into your skin that stays there. What a good serum can do: help the skin retain the moisture that is present. The Avocado Serum does this with a protective layer of plant-based oils that slows down moisture loss. The effect is what you expect from a hydrating serum, skin that feels soft and supple, but via the route that really works. You notice the difference especially in cold, dry months.

The nourishing ingredients

The serum largely consists of avocado oil, rich in monounsaturated fatty acids that are well absorbed by the skin. Around it a targeted mix: hemp seed oil regulates moisture and is rich in essential fatty acids, black elderberry oil and oat oil nourish and soften. Broccoli seed oil lays a silky-soft protective layer. The antioxidant Q10, a substance that naturally occurs in skin cells and decreases with age, helps protect the skin against oxidative damage. There is no water or filler in the formula: every drop consists of active ingredients, 100% natural and vegan.

How the serum fits into your routine

The serum is step 2 of your routine: first cleanse with the Carrot Cleanser, then apply one to two pumps to face and neck and finish with the Tomato Base Cream.
